Yet, a critical gap remains: while adoption is high, only about half of procurement professionals say they fully understand how AI agents work, and even fewer receive formal training. Despite rapid adoption, the biggest barrier to AI success in procurement isn’t technology, it’s mindset. Many teams still operate within traditional structures that prioritize compliance over curiosity. To truly unlock AI’s potential, leaders need to invest in training, data literacy, and cross-functional collaboration.
The procurement teams of the future will be defined by how well humans and machines work together, blending intuition with intelligence. As workloads rise faster than budgets, AI won’t just improve efficiency; it will become the foundation of how procurement creates value, manages risk, and builds resilience.
